Due to power outages out of our control, we have been working throughout the holidays to get services restored where possible.
A massive lightning strike on Christmas day, damaged the power lines up the hill in Glenfinnan resulting in the loss of power and equipment damaged.
The visibly damaged equipment was replaced on the 27th, but with no power to the equipment, it was impossible to tell which other bits and pieces were struck.
Power was finally restored in the afternoon of the 31st. After a first assessment late yesterday afternoon, 2 more volunteers went up today, to check the rest of the installation. A few more pieces need replacing and configuring which will be done tomorrow.
Words cannot express our gratitude to Iain, Alistair, Jim, Myriam and Steve who ignored the rain and gales to go up the hill in order to get Glenfinnan back online. THANK YOU!
On December 31st there was a major power outage on the Blar. Although our equipment is connected to an emergency power supply, the length of the power outage meant that the batteries were drained after a few hours. Power was restored around 11am.
On Sunday January 5th between 9am and 5pm the power at our main relay will be switched off to allow for SSE to repair the damage which was incurred on the 31st.
We will not have service that day and we apologise for the inconvenience.
The CBS funding we have just received, will allow us to order a second line at a different location, install more back up power units, add a central mast and make our network much more resilient and robust. This will alleviate most of the issues we have encountered in the past few months.
In the meantime, we hope you all had a nice end of year and wish you a very enjoyable 2014.
