Meet the team

Locheilnet employs a Project Manager and the book keeping, IT network management, IT support and installations are done by local contractors.

The rest of the work is done by volunteers living in the communities served by Locheilnet.

Chris Pellow

Project Manager - founder

Worked for 30 years doing technical administrative work, organising events, technical courses and training for various companies, customer service, translation and interpreting for a large international company.

Chris manages the project. Her daily tasks include: customer service, ordering of  equipment, configuring of equipment, organising installations, fund raising, public relations, legal agreements and obligations.  She also maintains the website and social media presence and keeps customers informed of our progress via a newsletter.

She is surrounded by a team of very skilled and dedicated people without whom Locheilnet would not be where it is today.

Viv MacDonald

Director  - Vice Chair
Customer Relations

Viv's background is in business development and training. Locheilnet offers her a chance to get in-touch with

her geekier side and she can be heard regularly talking tech on Nevis FM

Janet Sidgwick

Director - Volunteer - Financial and Funding advice

Janet is a retired doctor, heavily involved in community work.

She represents the Achnacarry area and brings gravitas to our team.

Ali Hodnett

IT network management - Support

Ali has got 10 years of working in climbing walls and outdoors pursuit with a background in IT and networking. So working for Locheilnet means he can combine his geeky side with his love for the outdoors.

Together with Jim, Ali oversees the technical aspects of the network, helps resolve issues and installs and replaces infrastructure.

All the volunteers

Volunteers - help in kind - moral support

The people of the local communities who help spread the word, who allow us to use their tracks or vehicles, who allow us to use their facilities for meetings.

The people who give a helping hand when things go wrong, who weather the storms to get up a hill.

Jackie Wright

Jim Smith

Director - Volunteer - IT Network Management

Jim is an IT professional with over 25 years experience. He has spent the last 9 years with a large multinational enterprise where he is currently the global unified communications services manager responsible for delivering collaboration technologies to 70,000 employees in over 80 countries.

Jim manages the Locheilnet network and IT related matters on a voluntary basis.

Sandy Edmond

Volunteer - Business advisor - Installations

Sandy has been in the boat-building and

repairing business for 40 years and

                              recently retired.

He has a wealth of practical experience of many trades skills and thrives on problem solving situations, finding simple ways to get the job done and he lives by the motto that a problem is merely a peg upon which to hang a solution.

A self-confessed technophobe he willingly leaves all the technical issues to be dealt with by the rest of the team.

He has been involved in many local Community Groups and Community Councils.

He became involved in Locheilnet due to a lack of broadband service at home and with a young family there was a pressing need to ensure that his family was not disadvantaged.

Sandy assists the Project Manager in managing the business, administration, health and safety, and HR issues, but he also enjoys going out to help with installations, meeting subscribers and getting dirty, wet, cold and hungry whilst reflecting on why anyone would volunteer to do this!!

Andy McKenna

Installer

Support

Andy’s background is printing, publishing, photography, video, websites and IT.

He worked for Nevisprint for 28 years in production and sales, operating all of the first and subsequent Apple computers and typesetting equipment.

He’s one of our installation team and will most likely be who calls you to arrange your installation. He enjoys seeing happy faces when he connects people to the internet and likes going into the more remote areas of Lochaber.

If your location is exceptional he might ask if he can put his professional drone into the sky for a couple of photos.

Andy is a Fort William, Inverlochy & Torlundy Community Councillor and Chair of Thomas Telford Corpach Marina project and lives in Tomacharich.
